Door 2 Door Airport Taxis is an independent, owner-driven service based in West Bergholt, on the north-west edge of Colchester. We do one job — airport and port transfers — and we take it personally.
Our story
Built around the worst part of flying.
Ask anyone in Colchester what they like least about going on holiday and the answer is rarely the flight. It's the journey to the airport: setting an alarm for the middle of the night, driving the A120 half-awake, finding the long-stay car park, waiting for a shuttle bus and then doing it all again in reverse when you land, tired, a fortnight later.
Door 2 Door Airport Taxis was set up to take that part away. Rather than being a general taxi firm that occasionally does airport runs, we built the whole business around them — the early starts, the late arrivals, the luggage and the planning that a reliable airport transfer actually needs.
Staying small is deliberate. When you call, you speak to Sean, who has been doing this for 30 years. There's no booking passed between controllers and no wondering whether a car is really coming.
We collect from within 20 miles of Colchester — the city itself, the villages of Dedham Vale, the Colne estuary and the countryside towards Braintree.

Thirty years of driving the A12, A120 and M25 at every hour means knowing which junction backs up at 7am and which route to take instead.

Behind the scenes
What happens before we arrive.
A reliable pickup is mostly preparation you never see. Here's what goes on between your booking and the moment we pull up outside.
When you book
Your fare, vehicle and suggested pickup time are confirmed in writing, along with any notes about luggage or children.
The day before
Between midday and 2pm we check your flight is still on schedule, confirm the terminal and confirm your pickup time.
Before setting off
Live traffic and roadworks are checked along the route, and the departure time is adjusted if needed.
At your door
We arrive a few minutes early, park up and wait for you — no beeping the horn at 3am.
At the drop-off
We pull up at the departure drop-off point for your airline and lift your luggage out. If you need us to park up and come into the terminal with you, that's available at an additional cost.

Airport journeys need space as much as comfort, so we run a range of vehicles and suggest the right one when you book, based on how many people are travelling and how much luggage you have.
- Car: up to 4 passengers
- Estate car: 2 or 3 passengers
- MPV: mainly 4 passengers
- 8-seater taxi: 5 to 8 passengers
Rooted locally
Based in West Bergholt. Working all over North Essex.
Being based just off the A12 and A134 puts every part of Colchester and its surrounding villages within easy reach, and gives a head start on the A120 towards Stansted. It also means we know the area properly — the narrow lanes around Dedham, the Mersea tide times on the Strood and the quickest way out of town at rush hour.
